Wooden Gate Installation

Wooden Gate Installation

Wooden gates typically installed as below

  1. Single gate hung behind posts
  2. Single gate hung in-between posts
  3. Double gates hung behind posts
  4. Double gates hung in-between posts

1. Single gate hung behind posts

  • Most common and secure method
  • Gate is hung on the inside of the posts
  • Any livestock pressure pushes gate hard onto the gatepost
  • Gate may open 180 degrees back onto the fence line
  • Gate does not open outward

2. Single gate hung in-between posts

  • Gate opens 90 degrees outwards and 90 degrees inwards
  • Not so secure for livestock

3. Double gates hung behind the posts

  • Two gates may each open 180 degrees back onto the fence line
  • Two gates may be better than one if there is rising ground as each is only half the length
  • Gates may be equal or unequal (one for pedestrians, one for vehicles)

4. Double gates hung between posts

  • Two gates each open 90 degrees outward and 90 degrees inward
  • Two gates may be better than one if there is rising ground as each is only half the length
  • Gates may be equal or unequal (one for pedestrians, one for vehicles)
